Louisville and Superior Living
 Residents from each of Louisville, Colorado and Superior, Colorado benefit from the close proximity to Boulder and all its "big city" amenities while being able to take advantage of the much lower housing costs, views, open space and small town feel of their local communities.
Students from both communities attend schools within the Boulder Valley School District. Currently, there are approximately 40 elementary schools, 20 middle schools and 13 high schools. The district is considered one of the best in the state with some of the highest ACT and SAT scores and has been ranked as one of the top 100 school districts in the United States. Institutions of higher learning in the area include Front Range Community College, Naropa University, the University of Colorado at Boulder and at Denver and the Colorado Art Academy. With the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop, there is a myriad of recreational opportunities for residents to enjoy. Outdoor adventure includes hiking and biking trails, rock climbing, water sports, winter sports, fishing, hunting and boating. For the golf enthusiasts, there are numerous world-class courses in the area as well as public tennis courts, recreation centers that offers programs for all ages as well as several sports complexes. There are about 10 ski resort areas within a 100-mile drive from the area. For those who prefer indoor activities, there are numerous shopping centers and malls in the area. The new Flatirons Crossing Mall located just minutes from both communities on Highway 36 in Broomfield offers 1.5 million square feet of retail space including four department stores, feature and fashion outlets, an AMC theater complex, restaurants, an outdoor village and more. Reflecting its location near the foothill outcroppings of the Flatirons, the backdrop to the Boulder Valley, the new shopping destination expresses the setting and sensibilities of the landscape where it takes root. An innovative architectural expression of the Flatirons -- the mountain canyons, high country trails and prairies not too far away - the mall is a shopping destination that expands traditional notions of what such a place can be, opening to the outdoors just as the lives of Coloradans do. Both of these communities' histories began with coal mining. Louisville was named after Louis Nawatny, a local landowner and mine owner. Superior was named after the "superior" quality of coal found within the area. Acme Mine operated directly beneath Louisville and Industrial Mine operated within Superior. These mines were among more than 30 that operated in the area mines found in and around the area around the turn of the century. Louisville was incorporated in 1882 and the town of Superior was incorporated in 1904. When the use of coal declined following World War II, the mines began to shut down. Mining was the major force in Superior's history until the Industrial Mine closed in 1945. The last mines near Louisville closed in 1952. Subsequently, many people moved out of the area and the towns evolved into a quiet ranching and farming communities. Superior's population hovered around 250 until recently. Today, both communities benefit from a booming real estate market thanks to their close proximity to Boulder and the development of new highways that has attracted new industry. Louisville has approximately 1,700 acres of open space earmarked for industrial and commercial growth. Superior also plans on new industrial and commercial development. Both of these communities offer excellent neighborhoods, growing business centers, easy accessibility into larger metropolitan areas in addition to a great quality of life. |
